Raise Awareness
Knowledge saves lives, awareness creates change
Raising awareness for safer births
Lack of awareness is a silent but deadly barrier. In Sierra Leone, too many women do not recognize the warning signs of complications in pregnancy and childbirth or wait too long before seeking help. Families may rely on traditional practices or misinformation, while stigma prevents lifesaving conversations. By raising awareness, Hawa’s Hope empowers communities with knowledge, sparks dialogue, and creates a culture where seeking skilled care becomes the norm – not the exception.
Why Awareness Matters
Awareness turns knowledge into action.
By challenging myths and building trust, we:
- Educate families on warning signs during pregnancy and childbirth
- Promote seeking care early to prevent delays that cost lives
- Engage men and community leaders to support mothers and midwives
- Break stigma around maternal health and spark open conversations
Barriers to address
Beyond medical challenges, mothers face cultural and social barriers. By naming and addressing them, we empower communities to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of safe births.
Gender Inequality
Women often lack decision-making power over their own health.
Superstition & Stigma
Harmful beliefs and silence prevent timely medical care.
Misinformation
Lack of knowledge about safe births and danger signs puts mothers and babies at risk.
Isolation in Rural Areas
Distance and limited transportation leave women without access to support.
